Oppose H.R.2792 which takes away SSI payments for people with any outstanding arrest warrant for an alleged felony or an alleged probation or parole violation. These warrants are often old, involve minor infractions, or are part of inactive cases that law enforcement does not want to pursue.
A very high percentage of those who would lose their benefits have a mental illness or intellectual disability, making it especially difficult, if not impossible, for them to go through the laborious process of resolving and removing an old outstanding warrant from their record.
This bill is cutting vital income for people with disabilities to fund another program. This bill would deprive thousands of people of benefits they depend on to meet their basic needs.
The House Rules Committee has set a vote on H.R. 2792 next Monday, September 25 at 5:00 PM. House floor consideration of the bill is expected on Tuesday, September 26 or Wednesday, September 27.

The Senate Finance Committee, of which Senator Roberts is a member, is holding a hearing on the Graham-Cassidy bill that will devastate Medicaid and have terrible impacts to healthcare in general. This post is to let everyone know about the hearing on Monday but also to encourage you to submit testimony. If you or someone you know that will be impacted which will be most people in some way please consider sending written testimony through the email address below. I would really encourage getting testimonies from individuals whose lives would be devastated by the impacts through Medicaid. Comments must be submitted by 12:00 Noon Central time on Monday, September 25th.
Be sure to copy your email to Senator Roberts in his webmail https://www.roberts.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?p=EmailPat
This is a very quick turnaround but this is not an accident. They are trying to push this through quickly. We must let Senator Roberts know how we feel. Be informative and respectful but let him know that we are his constituents and we vote!!
