Peer Counseling
Often the best advice and assistance comes from another person who has experience with your particular disability. SKIL provides several avenues for individuals with disabilities to receive information from their peers. While it is not always possible to locate peer counselors with the same disabilities as every customer, SKIL does attempt to make meaningful matches both for group counseling and individual counseling.
Community Support Groups are one service that SKIL supplies. SKIL assists in the formation of needed groups based on such factors as geographic location, disability and areas of interest on disability issues. Groups may meet in SKIL offices or in accessible meeting rooms in other communities.
Individual Peer Counseling is also offered for individuals with disabilities to share life experiences and problem solutions to other persons with disabilities. SKIL will review the customer’s request and arrange for peer support. Some services are available by telephone, while others may be face to face.
